Croat Alja Tomljanovic also advanced, topping Maria Sanchez in a 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 verdict.

Kirsten Flipkins is the defending champion and top seed of this indoor hardcourt tournament and will take on Polona Hercog in Tuesday's first round.
