Chicago, IL – Chicago Cubs pitcher Scott Baker was activated off the 60-day disabled list Sunday and returned to a big league mound for the first time since recovering from Tommy John surgery.
Baker gave up just two hits over the first five innings in a no-decision of Chicago's 3-1 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers at Wrigley Field.
Baker last pitched in the majors nearly two years ago with Minnesota and missed the entire 2012 campaign after undergoing right elbow reconstruction on April 17, 2012. He signed a one-year contract with the Cubs last November.
The 31-year-old right-hander made eight rehab starts this season, posting a record of 1-3 with a 5.46 ERA for Single-A Daytona and Single-A Kane County. He was 8-6 with a 3.14 ERA in 23 games during the 2011 season for the Twins.
The Cubs opened a roster spot by designating infielder Cody Ransom for assignment. The 37-year-old veteran batted .203 with nine homers and 20 runs batted in over 57 games for the Cubs this season.
