Kasey Carrier had 41 rushes for 291 yards and four touchdowns, including the game winner, to lead New Mexico past UTEP 42-35 in overtime on Saturday night.
New Mexico had the lone score in OT, a 21-yard rush by Carrier to win the game.
New Mexico's running game was the key to the victory. The Lobos had a total of 395 rushing yards, led by Carrier and quarterback Clayton Mitchem who rushed out of the pocket for 51 yards on nine carries. Mitchem threw only seven times for 88 yards.
Aaron Jones capped a second half UTEP rally with an 8-yard touchdown run to tie the game at 35 and send it to overtime.
UTEP's Jameill Showers threw 15 of 20 for 119 yards and a touchdown to Nathan Jeffery for 13 yards. The Miners' Aaron Jones carried 11 times for 127 yards and a touchdown.
