Trevone Boykin took over for an injured Casey Pachall and led 24th-ranked TCU to a 38-17 victory over Southeastern Louisiana.

Pachall injured his left forearm late in the second quarter when Southeastern Louisiana's Justin Church fell on him. He left the field holding his arm and did not return. TCU coach Gary Patterson said in a televised interview on the field after the game that Pachall's injury was serious, then stated after the game that he would definitely miss the Big 12 opener Thursday against Texas Tech.

"He won't play next week, I can promise you that," Patterson said in the press conference after the game.

Boykin led the Horned Frogs to the go-ahead field goal on his first series and 21 straight points in the second half. He finished 9-of-13 for 133 yards with two touchdowns passing and ran for 35 yards on five carries, while catching a trio of passes for 25 yards.

"I thought (Boykin) did fine," Patterson added. "He came in and did some good things."

Waymon James and B.J. Catalon added rushing touchdowns for TCU (1-1), which bounced back from last week's season-opening loss to LSU. Pachall was 8-of-14 for 100 yards through the air before exiting the contest.

Bryan Bennett ran for 132 yards with a touchdown and also threw for 132 yards with a score in defeat. Southeastern Louisiana (1-1), which plays in the Southland Conference of the FCS, opened its season with a 45-7 victory over Southeast Missouri State.

"We didn't back down, we didn't blink, and I'm proud of the guys on that front," Southeastern Louisiana head coach Ron Roberts said. "This was great for our program to say we came in here and played well."

Pachall left with the game tied at 14-14, but Boykin ignited the offense. He quickly led the Frogs down the field for a 46-yard field goal from Jaden Oberkrom as the half expired.

The Lions started the second half with the ball, but were stopped on fourth down near midfield and TCU went 57 yards the other way for a touchdown. Boykin completed a 29-yard pass on the first play to Brandon Carter, who capped the quick series with a 5-yard touchdown run.

Chris Hackett then intercepted Bennett on the first play after the ensuing kickoff and Boykin found Josh Doctson with a 27-yard scoring pass two plays later for a 31-14 lead.

Boykin and Aaron Green hooked up for a 9-yard scoring pass just over a minute into the fourth quarter to extend the Frogs' advantage to 24 and the Lions' Seth Sebastian kicked a 31-yard field goal late in the fourth for the final margin.

"I just think we finally woke up," Patterson remarked about the second-half performance. "I thought we didn't play with very much enthusiasm today."

A 51-yard return of the opening kickoff by James gave TCU great field position at the Southeastern Louisiana 49, but Pachall threw incomplete on fourth down to quickly turn it over. The Lions, though, gave it right back with a fumble, but Pachall again couldn't take advantage of the opportunity and misfired on fourth down inside the Southeastern Louisiana 20.

The Horned Frogs finally cashed in on their next series, starting from the Lions' 49 after a punt. An 8-yard pass on 3rd-and-7 kept it alive and James found the end zone from a yard away soon after for a 7-0 lead with 2 1/2 minutes left in the opening quarter.

Southeastern Louisiana had a chance to tie early in the second quarter, but Bennett was intercepted by Sam Carter at the TCU 22. The Lions forced a punt and followed with an 83-yard drive to tie the game. Bennett broke free for 45 yards to set up a first down at the five and he quickly finished the march two plays later by crashing into the end zone from the one.

TCU struck back immediately, as a 36-yard Pachall pass to Deante' Gray on the first play after the kickoff ignited a 60-yard drive that ended with a 15-yard touchdown run by Catalon.

Southeastern Louisiana, though, was unfazed and tied it again less than two minutes later when Bennett found Jeff Smiley all alone on the left sideline for a 65-yard catch and run.

"That's a Southeastern Louisiana football team's that's going to win a lot of football games," Patterson stated.
