Flushing Meadows, NY – Czech tandem Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka held on for a three-set victory in Saturday's final at Flushing Meadows to take home the doubles title at the U.S. Open.
The fifth-seeded duo dropped the first set before rallying past the Australian pairing of Ashleigh Barty and Casey Dellacqua, completing a 6-7 (7-4), 6-1, 6-4 decision in just less than two hours.
En route to winning their second doubles title at a major, Hlavackova and Hradecka had to knock off the Williams sisters in semifinal play, which they did in straight sets.
Their last major doubles title came at the 2011 French Open. They reached the final here last year, but finished runner-up to Italians Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci.
On Friday, Hlavackova captured the mixed doubles crown with Max Mirnyi.
Barty and Dellacqua, the tournament's eighth-seeded tandem, finished the year 0-3 in Grand Slam finals. They ended as runner-ups in both the Australian Open and at Wimbledon.
