Three-time NASCAR champion Tony Stewart returned to the track for the first time since breaking his leg in a sprint car accident.
Stewart used a motorized scooter adorned with the logos of his NASCAR sponsors to navigate his way around Richmond International Raceway on Friday. He'd been absent since his Aug. 5 accident at an Iowa dirt track hospitalized him for a week.
Stewart needed two surgeries for a broken tibia and fibula in his right leg. He was bedridden for a week after his release from the hospital, and confined to the North Carolina home of his longtime business manager for almost a month.
"Being at the race track is the best medicine for me," Stewart said as he scooted around the garage Friday.
