SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Rick Pitino has spent nearly half his life as a coach. Just because he's going into the Basketball Hall of Fame doesn't mean he's thinking about the end of his career.
He's 60 years old and says he'd love to coach when he's 70.
Pitino reaches another milestone in a career that includes NCAA championships with Kentucky and Louisville when he's inducted into the Hall of Fame on Sunday. He'll be joined by 11 others.
They are former NBA All-Stars Gary Payton, Bernard King and Richie Guerin, former ABA All-Star Roger Brown, former college coaches Jerry Tarkanian and Guy Lewis, former WNBA All-Star Dawn Staley, North Carolina women's coach Sylvia Hatchell, African-American basketball pioneer E.B. Henderson, NBA deputy commissioner Russ Granik and former Brazilian great Oscar Schmidt.
Pitino has been a coach at Boston University, Providence, Kentucky and Louisville. He led the Cardinals to the NCAA championship last season. He also coached the New York Knicks and Boston Celtics in the NBA.
