Cardinals' Housler out for Week 1

Arizona Cardinals starting tight end Rob Housler will not play in Sunday's season opener at St. Louis due to a high ankle sprain the third-year pro sustained during the preseason.

Housler, who posted career bests of 45 catches and 417 receiving yards last season, suffered the injury against San Diego on August 24 and has yet to resume practicing.

With veteran Jeff King out for the season with a knee injury, the Cardinals have only Jim Dray, Kory Sperry and rookie seventh-round pick D.C. Jefferson available at tight end for Sunday's matchup against the Rams. The trio has just 15 career catches combined.

Defensive end Calais Campbell is the only Cardinal whose status is uncertain for Week 1. The 6-foot-8 lineman did not practice Friday because of a sore quadriceps and is listed as questionable.

Running back Rashard Mendenhall (knee), wide receiver Andre Roberts (quadriceps) and nose tackle Dan Williams (ankle) are among those probable to play in the opener.
