Anaheim, CA – The Tampa Bay Rays will have Matt Moore back and available to contribute for their late-season playoff push, with the team activating the All-Star hurler from the 15-day disabled list prior to Tuesday's game with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
Moore, who hasn't pitched for the Rays since July 28 due to a sore left elbow, will draw the starting nod for Tuesday's matchup. The talented lefty still leads Tampa Bay with 14 victories and registered a 3.41 earned run average over 21 starts prior to being shelved, along with 115 strikeouts in 121 1/3 innings of work.
The 24-year-old tuned up for Tuesday's assignment by throwing four innings in a rehab start with Triple-A Durham on Thursday, though Moore allowed four runs and eight hits.
Tampa Bay also recalled fellow starter Jeremy Hellickson from a brief stint in the minors, with the 2011 AL Rookie of the Year scheduled to get the call in Wednesday's clash with the Angels.
Hellickson was demoted last week following a rough six-start stretch in which he was battered for 25 runs and failed to get through five innings five times. In 27 outings for the Rays this season, the right-hander has gone 10-8 with a 5.21 ERA.
Tampa Bay enters Tuesday's tilt in control of the AL's second and final wild card spot, with Baltimore two games behind the Rays and the New York Yankees 2 1/2 games back in the standings.
