Oakland's Moss named AL Player of Week

Oakland Athletics first baseman/outfielder Brandon Moss has been named the American League Player of the Week for the period ending Sept. 1.

Moss led all major league hitters with four home runs, 11 RBI and a .955 slugging percentage while guiding the A's to a 6-1 mark during the week.

The seven-year veteran went 4-for-5 with two homers, a double and a career- high six RBI in Oakland's 14-4 rout of Detroit on Wednesday, then homered for a third consecutive game in Thursday's series finale against the Tigers.

Moss finished the Detroit series with 10 RBI, marking the most by an Oakland player in a series since Damian Miller knocked in 12 runs during a three-game set against Cincinnati from June 7-9, 2004.

Others considered for the award included Chicago White Sox outfielder Avisail Garcia, catcher Salvador Perez and pitcher James Shields of the Kansas City Royals, Boston Red Sox outfielder Shane Victorino, Toronto Blue Jays pitcher R.A. Dickey, New York Yankees pitcher Ivan Nova and Houston Astros pitcher Brett Oberholtzer.
