New York Mets infielder Daniel Murphy was named National League Player of the Week for the period ending Sept. 1.
Murphy led the NL with five doubles while tying for first with seven runs scored and 13 base hits over seven games last week. He batted .448 with a .621 slugging percentage over that span.
The 28-year-old went 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles and two runs scored in an 11-3 win over Philadelphia on Thursday, then later capped a string of four straight games with two or more hits while adding a pair of RBI in a 6-5 loss to Washington on Sunday.
Also up for the award were Murphy's teammate Jonathon Niese, Allen Craig of the St. Louis Cardinals, Washington's Ian Desmond and Yasiel Puig and Zack Greinke of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
