Lefty Wade Miley makes a fifth attempt at his 10th victory of the season on Tuesday night when the Arizona Diamondbacks host the Toronto Blue Jays in the middle game of a three-game series at Chase Field.

The 26-year-old Louisiana native was 9-8 for 2013 after a 6-1 defeat of the Tampa Bay Rays in his initial start of August, but finished out the month with three no-decisions and a loss in four starts.

He allowed 11 runs on 26 hits in 28 innings over those four appearances and actually saw his earned run average tick down a point from 3.56 to 3.55.

His most recent start was a tough-luck 5-1 loss to San Diego in which he allowed two runs on seven hits in seven innings to the Padres, but fell to 9-9 a year in his 27th start, a year after going 16-11 in 32 outings.

Miley has never faced the Blue Jays.

For Toronto, righty Todd Redmond makes his 10th start in a Blue Jays uniform and goes for a second straight victory.

The 28-year-old lost his lone start as a member of the Cincinnati Reds last season and was 1-2 on the year after 11 appearances and eight starts with Toronto before defeating the New York Yankees, 7-2, on Aug. 28.

He pitched 5 2/3 innings and allowed just two runs on three hits in the victory, which came five days after he'd been shelled for eight runs in 3 1/3 innings of a 12-4 loss at Houston.

Redmond has never faced Arizona.

On Monday, Esmil Rogers struck out five and surrendered just one hit in 6 1/3 innings to help the Blue Jays take down the Diamondbacks, 4-1.

Rogers (4-7) was pulled with one out in the seventh despite throwing just 83 pitches. Sergio Santos pitched around a walk to finish the seventh, Steve Delabar needed just six pitches to get through the eighth and Aaron Loup gave up a run in the ninth before Casey Janssen came in and picked up his 27th save.

Brandon McCarthy (3-9) went the distance for Arizona, allowing four runs on five hits to absorb the loss, his sixth in his last seven decisions.

The Diamondbacks entered the week with a 5-4 lead in the all-time series between the teams, including two wins in three games when they last met in Arizona in 2010.
