The Houston Astros acquired catcher Matt Pagnozzi from the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday for cash considerations.
Pagnozzi, who hasn't played a regular season game since 2011, will be active for Tuesday night's game against the Minnesota Twins, the Astros said.
The Astros made the move a day after All-Star catcher Jason Castro sprained his right knee.
Pagnozzi batted .310 with a .364 on-base percentage in 33 major league games for St. Louis, Colorado and Pittsburgh between 2009-11. He hit .355 in 14 spring training games for the Braves this year.
