The Dallas Cowboys have set their practice squad with eight players who were among their final cuts, including quarterback Alex Tanney.

Tanney rose to No. 3 on the depth chart behind Tony Romo and Kyle Orton after signing on the first day of training camp. He played all but one series in the final exhibition game against Houston and finished the preseason with 423 passing yards, a touchdown and two interceptions.

The team reported on its website Sunday that the other practice squad players were receivers Danny Coale and Tim Benford, cornerback Micah Pellerin, defensive end Jason Vega, guard Ray Dominguez, linebacker Cameron Lawrence and safety Jakar Hamilton.

The Cowboys hoped to keep undrafted rookie linebacker Brandon Magee, but Cleveland claimed him off waivers.
