Jake Arrieta spun 6 2/3 innings of one-run ball as the Chicago Cubs cruised to a 7-1 win over the Philadelphia Phillies in the finale of a three-game set at Wrigley Field.
Arrieta (2-1) scattered three hits and three walks while fanning four to pick up his second win in his last three decisions.
"When he's in the zone he's pretty tough," Cubs manager Dale Sveum said of Arrieta.
Welington Castillo drove in a pair of runs, while Starlin Castro, Darwin Barney and Anthony Rizzo added one RBI apiece for the Cubs, winners in three of their last five games.
Ryan Sweeney, who was activated from the disabled list prior to the game, finished 1-for-3 with an RBI and one run scored.
Darin Ruf smacked a solo homer for the Phillies, losers in three of four.
"It was one of the few good swing we had," Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg said of Ruf's home run.
Kyle Kendrick (10-12) was tagged for five runs on eight hits over six innings to absorb the loss.
The Cubs pushed a run across in both the first and third innings to take an early 2-0 lead.
In the first, Barney singled and Rizzo walked to put two on for Sweeney, who ripped an RBI single to center.
In the third, Castro singled, then scored on Rizzo's double to center.
The Phillies got on the board with Ruf's solo homer in the fourth, but the Cubs countered with three runs in the home half to make it 5-1.
Donnie Murphy singled and Brian Bogusevic hit a ground-rule double to put a pair of runners on for Castillo, who cleared the bases with a double to center. Castillo moved to third on an Arrieta fly out then scored on Barney's sacrifice fly to right.
The Cubs tacked on two more in the eighth. Luis Valbuena worked a bases loaded walk to force Sweeney in and Castro followed with a sacrifice fly to right to score Bogusevic.
