Rocco Mediate backed up his course record from the first round with a 64 in the second round to remain atop the leaderboard after two rounds of the Shaw Charity Classic.

Mediate finished 36 holes at 15-under-par 127. He is aiming for his second title of the year after winning the crown at the season-opening Allianz Championship.

Bobby Clampett fired a 65 and is now alone in second place at minus-13 at Canyon Meadows Golf & Country Club.

Tom Pernice, Jr. (64), David Frost (66) and Michael Allen (66) are tied for third place at 11-under-par 131.

Jay Don Blake (66), Jeff Sluman (68), Kirk Triplett (66) and Bart Bryant (68) share sixth place at 10-under-par 132.

Mediate's drive on the first ended in a hole near a tree and he was forced to take an unplayable lie penalty. He scrambled for a bogey from there. At the par-5 fourth, he poured in a 40-footer for eagle.

"I tried to lag it down there close on four and it went in. Other than that, nothing really happened. I made a good par putt on seven, but nothing really happened," Mediate stated.

Mediate tripped to a bogey at the eighth, then parred the ninth to play the front nine in even-par. He caught fire around the turn.

The Allianz Championship winner birdied the 10th, and followed with 2-putt birdie from six feet out on 11. Mediate also birdied the 12th from 12 feet out and the 13th from just inside 20 feet.

After a 2-putt par on the par-3 14th, Mediate chipped his third at the par-5 15th to five feet and converted that for birdie. At the 16th, he sank a 12- foot effort for birdie.

Mediate closed with an eagle at the last to lead by two.

"I kept looking at the board going, man, I knew I was even par on the front. Not that it's easy," Mediate said. "I didn't really play that bad on the front nine, I just didn't make anything. Other than that (eagle on four), nothing really happened. All of a sudden at 10, I made a good one there and they just started to go."

Clampett also played the front side in even-par with birdies at two and six to go along with bogeys at seven and nine. After back-to-back birdies at 11 and 12, Clampett birdied the final four holes to soar into second place.

"I was just really trying to hang in there. I wasn't playing particularly well early on in the round and missed a couple shots, the tee shot at seven and a tee shot at nine and managed to squeak out a couple bogeys on those holes. That was kind of key in turning even," Clampett stated. "I just hung in there, made some good putts today. Today, I made all the five-footers and all the short ones and just hung in there and then finally hit some quality shots on 16 and 17 and 18. To finish up those three holes the way I did was really nice, good enough where I'm not going to the practice range today."

NOTES: Mediate's total of 127 is the lowest first 36-hole score of the year on the Champions Tour ... The 36-hole leader has won eight of 18 events on tour this year, including the last three tournaments ... Blake had three eagles in his round, making him the seventh player in tour history to do so.
