AJ Allmendinger will take over the No. 47 car for JTG Daughterty Racing next season.

The announcement Saturday caps Allmendinger's comeback from a positive drug test in July 2012 that led to his suspension and caused him to lose his job with Roger Penske's Sprint Cup team.

But Allmendinger went through a NASCAR-mandated treatment program and managed to land a handful of Cup rides, in addition to getting a chance from Penske to drive in IndyCar. Allmendinger competed in the Indianapolis 500, led 23 laps and finished seventh — a performance he calls "probably the biggest moment of my career."

Now, less than 14 months after the positive test, Allmendinger is back in Sprint Cup with a full-time ride. He'll replace former Cup champion Bobby Labonte at the one-car team.
