Urban Meyer wants to see revamped Buckeyes' defense get back to where it was not so long ago

Even though Ohio State had the 2012 Big Ten defensive player of the year in lineman John Simon, went 12-0 and always seemed to come up with a big play when needed, coach Urban Meyer wants something more this year out of his defense.

That unit did its part in the perfect season, but the numbers weren't very good: 360 yards and 23 points a game, including surrendering 512 yards to California, 481 to Indiana and 403 to UAB.

The Buckeyes are seeking improvement despite missing eight starters on that side of the ball when they host Buffalo on Saturday.

The coaches say the defense will be quicker, more aggressive and more opportunistic, despite starting four sophomores and several juniors who are largely untested.
