NORTON, Mass. – PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem says there were "robust" conversations with Fox Sports in two of the last three television negotiations. He says scheduling conflicts kept those conversations from going anywhere.
Finchem said Wednesday that Fox Sports signing a 12-year deal with the U.S. Golf Association is an advantage for the PGA Tour in the long run. But he says he's happy with the agreement the tour has with NBC Sports and CBS Sports.
Fox agreed to a 12-year deal worth about $100 million a year to televise the USGA's championships, starting with the 2015 U.S. Open. The USGA took Fox over a strong bid by NBC, which had been televising the U.S. Open since 1995.
The U.S. Open will be the only golf tournament Fox televises on the PGA Tour schedule.
