The Tampa Bay Rays optioned starting pitcher Jeremy Hellickson to Single-A Charlotte and recalled pitcher Jeff Beliveau from Triple-A Durham on Tuesday.

Hellickson has been battered for 25 runs over his last six starts, with the 26-year-old righty failing to get through five innings in five of those outings. However, manager Joe Maddon expects the move to be only temporary.

"Just want to give Helly a little breather," Maddon said. "He'll help us in September."

For the season, the fourth-year pitcher is 10-8 with a 5.21 ERA over 27 starts.
