The San Francisco 49ers have traded linebacker Parys Haralson to the New Orleans Saints in exchange for an undisclosed 2014 draft pick.

Haralson appeared in 86 games with 68 starts in seven seasons with the 49ers. He registered 295 tackles with 21 1/2 sacks, four fumble recoveries and three forced fumbles with San Francisco.

The 29-year-old Tennessee product missed the entire 2012 season with a torn triceps.

"Parys has been a consummate professional throughout his seven years as a 49er," said San Francisco general manager Trent Baalke in a statement Tuesday. "His leadership, work ethic and dedication to our organization, and the Bay Area community, have provided a great example for our locker room. We would like to thank Parys for his many contributions on and off the field and wish him the very best."

The Saints are apparently in need of an outside linebacker after reports indicated that Will Smith suffered a torn ACL this past weekend.
