Astros' Castro earns AL Player of Week honors

Houston Astros catcher Jason Castro has been named the American League's Player of the Week for games played from Aug. 19-25.

Castro finished the week hitting a torrid .529 with three home runs, two doubles, one triple and five runs batted in. He added seven runs scored and four walks, racking up a major-league best on-base percentage of .619 along with baseball's best slugging pct. (1.294) and tying for second in total bases with 22.

Castro torched the Blue Jays by going deep twice -- his second multi-homer effort of the season -- along with three RBI and three runs scored in an 8-5 Astros victory on Saturday.

Others considered for the award included Oakland pitcher Jarrod Parker, Boston hurler Jake Peavy and second baseman Dustin Pedroia, Chicago reliever Addison Reed, Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano and Tampa Bay's Evan Longoria.
