Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III was fined $10,000 by the NFL Thursday for wearing unauthorized apparel.

NFL.com reports Griffin received the fine for wearing a shirt that read "Operation Patience" during pregame warmups prior to Monday's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Griffin is continuing to work his way back to playing following surgery in January to repair both the lateral collateral and anterior cruciate ligaments in his right knee.

He's hoping to be ready for the season opener at home against Michael Vick and the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday, Sept. 9.
