Chris Lane traveled from Australia to the United States for the love of baseball — and the opportunity to pursue a college degree while playing America's pastime.

The 22-year-old Melbourne native hoped to work in real estate when he graduated in May from East Central University in Oklahoma, but he was fatally shot in the back last week while jogging. Three boys — ages 15, 16 and 17 — are charged in his death.

His father, Peter Lane, tells The Telegraph in Sydney, Australia, that his son "gave up a lot to follow his dream."

Meanwhile, teammates and athletic officials in the U.S. are remembering Lane as a well-rounded, charismatic guy who was passionate about baseball, worked hard and used his skills to get a college education.
