Maria Sharapova, ranked No. 3 in the world, heads to the U.S. Open next week without a coach.

FOX Sports Insider Greg Couch has confirmed an earlier Times of London report that Sharapova has parted ways with Jimmy Connors after just one match, a second-round loss to American Sloane Stephens this week at the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati.

In a statement emailed to TENNIS.com Sharapova said, "It's not the right fit for this time in my career."

Sharapova has played just three matches since losing the French Open final to Serena Williams in June.
