The Pittsburgh Pirates signed pitcher Kyle Farnsworth to a minor-league contract Friday. He was assigned to Triple-A Indianapolis.

The 37-year-old right-hander went 2-0 with a 5.76 ERA in 39 appearances with the Rays this season before being designated for assignment and released on August 9.

Over 15 seasons with the Cubs (1999-2004), Tigers (2005, 2008), Braves (2005, 2010), Yankees (2006-08), Royals (2009-10) and Rays (2011-13), Farnsworth is 42-62 with a 4.29 ERA, 52 saves and 936 strikeouts.

He ranks third among active pitchers with 849 career games, behind only Mariano Rivera (1,098) and LaTroy Hawkins (925).
