Kansas City, MO – The Kansas City Royals reinstated catcher Salvador Perez from the 7-day concussion list and placed infielder Miguel Tejada on the 15-day DL among a flurry of moves prior to Sunday's game against the Boston Red Sox.
Perez missed seven games with his injury, which the 2013 All-Star sustained in a matchup with the New York Mets on August 3. He will bat fifth and be behind the plate for Sunday's tilt.
Tejada, who has started 12 of Kansas City's last 15 games at second base, exited Saturday's 5-3 loss to the Red Sox with a strained right calf. The 39- year-old veteran is batting .288 with three home runs and 20 RBI over 53 games this season.
It's the Royals' second everyday player to land on the DL in as many days, with the club shelving center fielder Lorenzo Cain on Saturday due to an oblique strain.
Catcher Brett Hayes was designated for assignment to make room for Perez, while infielder Irving Falu was recalled from Triple-A Omaha to take Tejada's spot.
Falu batted .341 (29-for-85) in 24 games for the Royals last season and owns a .264 average with two homers, 28 RBI and 18 steals for the Storm Chasers in 2013.
The Royals also activated pitcher Wade Davis from the emergency leave list, with the right-hander slated to start Monday's opener of a three-game series with the Miami Marlins. Davis had been away from the team for a week to deal with a death in the family.
Reliever Donnie Joseph, who tossed two scoreless innings in Saturday's loss, was optioned to Omaha in a corresponding move.
