Rochester, NY – Jason Dufner poured in back-to-back birdie chances at four and five to reach 10-under par, then Jim Furyk birdied the sixth to match Dufner in the lead at the 95th PGA Championship.
Dufner got up and down for birdie from over the green on the par-5 fourth, then stuffed up approach to a foot at the fifth. After he kicked that in, Dufner made par from the fringe on No. 6 to remain at 10-under.
Furyk parred the first five holes to briefly fall one back. At the sixth, he ran home a 25-footer for birdie and a share of the lead.
Henrik Stenson is even-par through seven holes and is alone in third at minus-7.
Scott Piercy is having the best round of the day. He has jumped into fourth place after playing the first 16 holes in 6-under par to reach minus-6 for the championship.
Graeme McDowell fired a 66 to match 2011 champion Keegan Bradley and Hideki Matsuyama for the low round of the day honors. McDowell and Boo Weekley (67) share the clubhouse lead at 2-under-par 278, while Bradley and Matsuyama are one back at 1-under 279.
Four-time champion Tiger Woods went out in 3-over 38 with a bogey at eight and a double-bogey at nine. Around the turn, he birdied three of four holes from the 12th to get back to even-par for his round. Woods parred the last three holes to finish at 4-over 284.
Miguel Angel Jimenez poured in five straight birdies from the 12th to the 16th en route to a 3-under 67. That was the second time this week that Jimenez birdied five in a row, as he also did it in the first round from the second to the sixth. The Spaniard ended at 2-over 282.
Tim Clark, who finished third at the 2003 PGA at Oak Hill, recorded the first hole-in-one of the week. He aced the par-3 11th, but still struggled to a 75, which left him at plus-10.
British Open champ and Phil Mickelson mixed four birdies, a triple bogey, a double bogey and a bogey in a round of 2-over 72. The 2007 PGA winner ended the tournament at 12-over 292.
