Facing his last chance for major title this year, Woods begins well at PGA Championship

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Tiger Woods is off to a strong start at the PGA Championship.

The 14-time major champion began on the back side Thursday, making the turn with a 2-under 33. He birdied the par-5 13th hole at Oak Hill, chipping up within inches of the hole for a tap in. Then, at the par-3 15th, he stuck his tee shot about 10 feet away and made the putt. A couple of nice par saves left him two strokes behind co-leaders Robert Garrigus and David Heard.

Taking advantage of soft conditions after overnight rain, Garrigus began with a 33 on the back side and added birdies at the second and fourth holes. Hearn started with a bogey at No. 1 but bounced back to make birdie on five of the next 10.
