A person familiar with the situation says Duke administrator Stan Wilcox is leaving to take over as Florida State's athletic director.

The person spoke to The Associated Press Wednesday on condition of anonymity because Florida State has not announced the hiring.

Wilcox came to Duke in 2008 from Notre Dame along with AD Kevin White and has been his senior deputy director of athletics. He managed the day-to-day oversight of the Blue Devils' athletic department and oversaw the football program.

Wilcox played basketball for the Fighting Irish and spent 11 years as the Big East Conference's associate commissioner before serving as deputy AD at Notre Dame from 2005-08.

He replaces Randy Spetman. His exit was announced in June after five years in charge of the Seminoles' athletic department.
