Chicago Cubs catcher Dioner Navarro left Wednesday's game with the Philadelphia Phillies in the seventh inning with an apparent right ankle injury.

Navarro injured the leg after a collision at the plate with Phillies second baseman Chase Utley.

With runners at first and second, Kevin Frandsen laced a base hit to right field. Utley took off from second and raced to the plate before starting to slide as Navarro was catching a perfect throw from right fielder Cole Gillespie. At the last second, Utley popped up out of his slide and drove his shoulder into Navarro, causing the catcher's leg to bend awkwardly. Navarro held onto the ball to record the out, but remained on the ground for several minutes before he was carted off the field.

X-rays were negative and the injury is considered to be nothing more than a contusion.

Cubs outfielder Thomas Neal was also injured earlier in the inning on a throw from left field. He suffered a dislocated right shoulder.
