Martin rolls to win at Mylan Classic

Canonsburg, PA – Ben Martin carded his third straight 4-under 67 on Sunday to roll to a 5-stroke victory at the Mylan Classic.

Martin earned his second win of the season at 17-under-par 267.

"It was a great day out there," said Martin. "To cap it off today with another 67, three in a row, it was just an awesome day. I played really well. I had a few hiccups, but other than that it was a lot of fun."

Kelly Kraft fired a 7-under 64 during his final round at Southpointe Golf Club to finish in second place at 12-under 272.

Second-round leader Whee Kim (73), Nick Rousey (69), Chad Collins (70), Brad Elder (71), IJ Jang (71) and Ariel Canete (70) shared third at 7-under. Cliff Kresge (70) occupied ninth at minus-6.

Martin entered the final round with a 4-stroke lead, and quickly ran his advantage to seven with birdies at the second, third and fifth holes, moving him to 16-under.

Elder was his nearest competitor at the time at minus-9 as he opened his final round with gains at the second and fifth.

Martin's cushion, however, began to shrink when he tripped to consecutive bogeys at the sixth and seventh.

Elder then birdied the eighth to move within four of Martin at 10-under, and he was joined there by Kraft, who raced up the leaderboard with birdies at Nos. 1, 2, 4, 5, 9, 10 and 11 around bogeys at the sixth and eighth.

Kraft stayed hot with back-to-back birdies at the 14th and 15th to pull within two strokes of Martin at 12-under, but a bogey at the 16th dropped him three back.

Elder, meanwhile, bogeyed the 12th before slipping to a double-bogey 7 at the 13th to fall seven strokes off the pace.

Despite all the jostling below him, Martin held steady atop the leaderboard by following his bogey at the seventh with seven straight pars.

At the short par-4 15th, Martin hit his drive to the right of the green and holed out his chip for an eagle to move to 16-under and open up a 5-shot lead with three holes to play.

"That was huge," Martin said about his eagle. "I chipped in on Sunday last week at 15 for eagle, so I had some good memories going there. I didn't look at the leaderboards, I didn't know where I stood, but that definitely gave me a lot of momentum with three holes to go."

Martin followed with a bogey at the 16th to cut his advantage to just three shots as Kraft closed with a birdie at the last to head into the clubhouse at 12-under, but Martin bounced back with a birdie at the 17th after hitting his second shot to within five feet of the pin to again reach 16-under.

Martin then closed with about a 10-foot birdie effort at the 18th to seal the win.

NOTES: Martin's first career win came at the United Leasing Championship in June ... Martin is 96-under in his last 24 rounds ... Martin collected $121,500 for the win, which will move him to second on the Web.com Tour money list.
