Chicago, IL – The Chicago Cubs have placed infielder Luis Valbuena on the 15-day disabled list with a right oblique strain.
Valbuena is batting .225 with nine homers and 31 RBI through 89 games this season.
The Cubs filled the roster spot by recalling infielder Logan Watkins from Triple-A Iowa. Watkins, the team's 2012 minor league player of the year, will make his major league debut when he starts at second base on Sunday against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The 23-year-old Watkins hit .243 with eight homers and 26 RBI over 107 games with Iowa.
