New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter has again been forced from the lineup because of injury.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said that Jeter will sit the last two tilts of the team's three-game set with the San Diego Padres because of right calf soreness and a lingering quadriceps issue.

The 39-year-old missed the first 91 games of the season after suffering two fractures in his left ankle, then strained his quad during his first game back on July 11.

Girardi said there is a possibility Jeter could be used as a pinch-hitter this weekend and is hopeful that the All-Star shortstop can be the designated hitter on Monday when the Yankees travel to Chicago to play the White Sox.

Jeter has played in only four games since returning from the disabled list on July 28.
