Chris Capuano has dominated the Chicago Cubs in his career.
The Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander has a chance to secure a win at Wrigley Field Saturday afternoon and put the Dodgers into the franchise record books when the teams resume a four-game series.
Capuano is unbeaten in his last three starts, including throwing 6 2/3 shutout innings in a no-decision against the Cincinnati Reds Sunday. Capuano is 9-3 with a 3.35 ERA in 15 games (13 starts) versus the Cubs. That includes a 5-2 mark at Wrigley Field.
The Dodgers won, 6-2, Friday to gain their 12th victory in 14 contests since the All-Star break. They also picked up their 12th straight road win to match an 89-year-old franchise record.
"It's something I think those guys should be proud of," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said. "It shows that they're coming to play everyday. The fact that you keep getting ready to go, and showing up everyday ready to go and win."
Nick Punto helped Los Angeles get there, knocking in two runs and scoring another on a pair of hits, including a double.
Yasiel Puig went 2-3 with an RBI and a run scored, and raised his average to .371. Mark Ellis went 1-for-3 to extend his hitting streak to 13 games for the Dodgers, who have not lost a series since June 14-16 at Pittsburgh.
Hyun-Jin Ryu (10-3) battled through 5 1/3 innings to pick up his third straight winning decision. He gave up two runs on 11 hits. Ryu hasn't lost since June 19.
Los Angeles battered All-Star Travis Wood (7-8) for five runs on seven hits and five walks in 3 1/3 innings.
Junior Lake went 4-for-5 for the Cubs, picking up his second career four-hit game in his 16th game, but the Cubs lost for the fifth time in six games.
"Obviously a nice job," Cubs manager Dale Sveum said. "That doesn't happen too often."
Jeff Samardzija was the subject of trade rumors, but will remain with the Cubs for the foreseeable future. The right-hander is also 1-0 over his last three appearances and gets the nod Saturday. He's coming off a no-decision against Milwaukee on Monday when he allowed three hits in seven shutout frames. The Cubs lost that game, 5-0.
In three career games against the Dodgers, Samardzija is 1-1 with a 5.19 ERA.
Los Angeles won four of six versus Chicago a season ago.
