Cubs DFA Borbon, call up Murphy

The Chicago Cubs designated outfielder Julio Borbon for assignment prior to Saturday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Borbon, a supplemental first-round pick of Texas in the 2007 MLB Draft, had been claimed off waivers by the Cubs from the Rangers on April 19, but batted just .200 with one home run and three RBI in 73 games with Chicago.

The Cubs purchased the contract of journeyman infielder Donnie Murphy from Triple-A Iowa to take Borbon's place on the active roster.

Murphy owns a .205 career average with 18 homers and 82 RBI over 244 major league games, having previously spent time with Kansas City, Oakland and the Marlins. The 30-year-old was hitting .265 with 12 homers and 41 RBI in 89 games with Iowa this season.
