Philadelphia, PA – The Philadelphia Phillies officially placed pitcher Jonathan Pettibone on the 15-day disabled list Friday due to a strained right shoulder.
The team had previously announced that Pettibone would be scratched from Saturday's scheduled start against Atlanta because of shoulder tightness. A replacement has yet to be named.
Pettibone has started 18 games for the Phillies since being promoted from the minors in April, going 5-4 with a 4.04 earned run average.
Fellow rookie Ethan Martin was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to fill the roster spot, with the rookie slated to make his major league debut in Friday's matchup with the Braves.
Martin, acquired by Philadelphia from the Dodgers in last July's trade that sent outfielder Shane Victorino to Los Angeles, is filling in for Cliff Lee. The All-Star lefty is currently dealing with a stiff neck and has not pitched since July 21.
The 24-year-old Martin started 21 games for the Iron Pigs and put together an 11-5 record to go along with a 4.12 ERA and 107 strikeouts over 115 2/3 innings.
Philadelphia made an additional move prior to Friday's contest, designating reliever J.C. Ramirez for assignment and selecting the contract of right- hander Zach Miner from Lehigh Valley.
Ramirez allowed 13 runs (11 earned) in 13 1/3 innings over 11 appearances for the Phillies.
Miner, 31, owns a 25-20 record with a 4.24 ERA over 157 MLB games, but hasn't pitched in the big leagues since 2009 while with Detroit.
