Team USA amassed a record-breaking collection of 52 medals at the 2013 IPC Athletics World Championships - held July 20-28 in Lyon, France - to finish second overall. Tatyana McFadden (Clarksville, Md.) set a world record of 1:44.44 in the 800-meter T54 and became the first woman to win six events. Raymond Martin's (Jersey City, N.J.) world record time of 59.85 in men's 400-meter T52 earned him the distinction of being the first man to win five individual world titles. In total, Team USA set five world records and produced 17 champions.

U.S. MEN WIN FIFTH GOLD CUP TITLE

The U.S. Men's National Soccer Team won the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup championship on July 28 in Chicago with a 1-0 victory over Panama in the final. The U.S. advanced to the final with a 3-1 semifinal victory over Honduras on July 24 and finished the tournament with a perfect 6-0 record to extend its winning streak to 11 games.

BADMINTON

Team USA clinched third place at the Pan Am Junior Championships, held July 24-28 in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. After falling to Brazil in the semifinals, the U.S. defeated Mexico for third place. Crystal Pan (Freemont, Calif.) and Victoria Chen (Bellevue, Wash.) placed first and second in the girls' U17 singles and took the girls' doubles title. On the boys' side, Raymond Hsia (Arcadia, Calif.) and Albert Li (Mountain View, Calif.) took bronze in the U17 doubles category.

BASEBALL

The U.S. Collegiate National Team emerged undefeated with a 5-0 record at the 2013 USA-Cuba friendship series, held July 18-23. The U.S. closed out the series with two victories, 3-2 and 5-3, in Durham, N.C. The series marked the end of the team's summer tour, as it finished with an overall record of 20-3.

BASKETBALL

The U.S. was crowned champion with a 61-28 final victory against France at the FIBA U19 World Championship, held July 18-28 in Klaipeda, Lithuania. The U.S. swept the second round and final round, defeating the Netherlands, Canada, France, Japan and Australia to earn its fifth consecutive title.

CYCLING

Eric Young (Boulder, Colo.) and Alison Powers (Pinecliffe, Colo.) won the men's and women's titles at the USA Cycling Professional Criterium National Championships on July 27 in High Point, N.C.

Felicia Stancil (Lake Villa, Ill.) and Sean Gaian (Santee, Calif.) earned gold medals in the women's and men's junior races at the 2013 UCI BMX World Championships, held July 24-28 in Auckland, New Zealand. In elite racing, Arielle Martin (Cedar Hills, Utah) earned fourth place, while Alise Post (St. Cloud, Minn.) finished close behind in fifth for the women, while Barry Nobles (Wetumpka, Ala.) earned an eighth-place finish in the men's race.

Georgia Gould (Ketchum, Idaho) finished 20th in the cross-country race at the 2013 UCI Mountain Bike World Cup, held July 27-28 in Vallnord, Andorra.

DIVING

David Boudia (Noblesville, Ind.) captured the silver medal in the men's 10- meter platform as the diving competition concluded at the FINA World Championships, held July 19-Aug. 4 in Barcelona, Spain. The U.S. men's 3-meter synchronized team and women's 10-meter synchronized team finished fifth and seventh.

FIELD HOCKEY

The U.S. Women's U21 National Team split its first two games of pool play at the Hockey Junior World Cup, held July 27-Aug. 4 in Monchengladbach, Germany. After opening with a 4-1 victory over Korea on July 27, the U.S. fell to the Netherlands, 5-1, the following day.

GYMNASTICS

Kyla Ross (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) earned the highest score on uneven bars to claim the all-around title with 58.650 points at the 2013 Secret U.S. Classic on July 27 in Hoffman Estates, Ill. Peyton Ernst (Coppell, Texas) earned the balance beam's highest score of 14.700 to take second overall (58.250), while Brenna Dowell (Odessa, Mo.) posted 57.200 to finish third. With an average of 15.425, Olympian McKayla Maroney (Long Beach, Calif.) earned the top score on vault.

KARATE

Cheryl Murphy (Jamaica Queens, N.Y.) took the bronze medal with a defeat over Turkey's Meltem Hocaoglu in the women's -68 kg. Kumite category at the 2013 World Games, held July 25-Aug. 4 in Cali, Colombia. Tom Scott (Richardson, Texas) finished fourth at 75 kg.

MODERN PENTATHLON

Isabella Isaksen (Fayetteville, Ark.) placed 14th in the women's in event at the Pentathlon Junior World Championships, held July 25-30 in Szekesfehervar, Hungary. Meanwhile, Nathan Schrimsher (Roswell, N.M.) finished 18th.

RACQUETBALL

Rocky Carson (Ladera Ranch, Calif.) overcame compatriot Jose Rojas (Stockton, Calif.), 2-1, to secure the bronze medal at the 2013 World Games, held July 25- Aug. 4 in Cali, Colombia. On the women's side, Rhonda Rajsich (Fountain Hills, Ariz.) beat U.S. teammate Cheryl Gudinas (Naperville, Ill.), 2-0, to take the bronze medal.

ROWING

Andrew Campbell (New Canaan, Conn.) cruised to a gold-medal victory in the men's lightweight single sculls at the 2013 World Rowing U23 Championships, held July 24-28 in Linz, Austria. The women's eight also took gold to defend its championship title. Rounding out the four-medal count for the U.S. was the men's eight with silver and the lightweight men's four with bronze.

SHOOTING

Brian Burrows (Fallbrook, Calif.) and Rachael Heiden (Clinton, Mich.) earned the first championship titles in men's and women's trap shooting at the 2013 Shotgun National Championships, held July 25-Aug. 3 in Colorado Springs, Colo.

SOFTBALL

The U.S. Women's National Team captured a third-place finish at the Canadian Open Fastpitch International Championship, held July 16-22 in Surrey, British Columbia. Team USA concluded the tournament with a 2-1 loss to Australia and a record of 6-2.

SQUASH

The U.S. women took home the silver medal at the 2013 World Junior Championships, held July 15-27 in Wroclaw, Poland. En route to its second-place finish, the team clinched 3-0 wins against France, Canada, Czech Republic and New Zealand and then a 2-1 win over England. In the final, the U.S. fell to Egypt, 2-1.

SWIMMING

Katie Ledecky (Bethesda, Md.) captured the gold medal in the women's 400-meter freestyle with a new American record of 3:59.82 at the FINA World Championships, held July 19-Aug. 4 in Barcelona, Spain. The women's 4x100 freestyle team set another U.S. record time of 3:32.31 as it won gold, while the men's team captured the silver medal. In the open water events, Eva Fabian (Keene, N.H.) earned the bronze medal in the women's 25-kilometer.

TENNIS

John Isner (Greensboro, N.C.) emerged victorious in men's singles at the BB&T Atlanta Open, held July 20-28. In the final match, he earned a 6-7(3), 7-6(2), 7-6(2) win over Kevin Anderson of South Africa. The doubles team of James Blake (Yonkers, N.Y.) and Jack Sock (Lincoln, Neb.) made it to the quarterfinals, but then fell to Great Britain's Colin Fleming and Jonathan Marray, 6-3, 6-2.

Raquel Kops-Jones (Fresno, Calif.) and Abigail Spears (Escondido, Calif.) claimed the women's doubles title at the Bank of the West Classic, held July 22-28 in Palo Alto, Calif. The top-seeded duo defeated Germany's Julia Goerges and Croatia's Darija Jurak, 6-2, 7-6 (4), in the final. In the singles competition, Jamie Hampton (Auburn, Ala.) advanced to the semifinals, but then fell to Agnieszka Radwanska of Slovakia, 6-3, 6-2.

TRACK & FIELD

Shannon Rowbury (San Francisco, Calif.) won the 3,000-meter with a world- leading time of 8:41.46 at the 2013 Sainsbury's Anniversary Games, held July 26-27 in London. Brenda Martinez (Big Bear Lake, Calif.) and Allyson Felix (Santa Clarita, Calif.) also claimed gold in the 800 and 200. On the men's side, Richard Browne beat his own world record in the 100 T43/44 with a time of 10.75, while Michael Tinsley (Round Rock, Texas) and David Oliver (Kissimmee, Fla.) won gold in the 400 and 110 hurdles.

VOLLEYBALL

Phil Dalhausser (Ormond Beach, Fla.) and Sean Rosenthal (Redondo Beach, Fla.) captured the gold medal at the FIVB Long Beach Grand Slam, held July 23-28 in Long Beach, Calif. After defeating compatriots Jake Gibb (Bountiful, Utah) and Casey Patterson (Van Nuys, Calif.) in the semifinals, the duo overcame Spain's Pablo Herrera and Adrian Gavira, 21-15, 21-18, to secure its third FIVB tournament title. Gibb and Patterson (Van Nuys, Calif.) earned a fourth-place finish, as did the women's team of Emily Day (Torrance, Calif.) and Summer Ross (Carlsbad, Calif.).

Heather Hughes (Torrance, Calif.) and Kaitlin Sather Nielsen (Hermosa Beach, Calif.) placed fourth at the FIVB Anapa Open, held July 23-28 in Anapa, Russia. The team finished second in pool play and then won the three elimination-round games before losing to Russia's Evgenia Ukolova and Ekaterina Khomyakova, 21-23, 21-19, 15-6, in the semifinals. The men's team of Will Montgomery (Santa Barbara, Calif.) and Avery Drost (Hawthorne, Calif.) finished 17th after ending pool play with a 1-2 record and then falling to Ukraine's Popov Sergiy and Valeriy Samoday in the first round of single elimination.

The U.S. began pool play with a 2-1 record at the 2013 FIVB Volleyball Girl's U18 World Championship, held July 26-Aug. 4 in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand. The U.S. first lost to Slovenia before overcoming Brazil and the Dominican Republic.

WATER POLO

The U.S. women advanced to the quarterfinals with a 14-3 victory over Brazil at the FINA World Championships, held July 19-Aug. 4 in Barcelona, Spain. It was the fourth consecutive win for the U.S., which defeated Greece, Canada and Great Britain. The men's team made it to the elimination round with a loss to Croatia and wins over Russia and Canada, but then concluded play after falling to Spain, 10-6.

WATER SKIING

Regina Jaquess (Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.) emerged as the gold medalist in women's slalom at the 2013 World Games, held July 25-Aug. 4 in Cali, Colombia. Meanwhile, Erika Lang (Gilbert, Ariz.) took silver in women's tricks.

WEIGHTLIFTING

Travis Cooper (Tyrone, Ga.) took the gold medal in the men's 85 kg. category and was crowned one of the best lifters at the 2013 USA Weightlifting National Championships, held July 26-28 in West Chester, Ohio. Also among the 14 champions crowned were Chad Vaughn (Konawa, Okla.) in men's 77 kg. and Sarah Robles (San Jacinto, Calif.) in women's 75+ kg.
