The Oakland Athletics acquired infielder Alberto Callaspo from the Los Angeles Angels Tuesday night in exchange for infielder Grant Green.

The 30-year-old Callaspo is hitting .252 with five homers and 36 RBI in 85 games this season. He started Tuesday's road game against the Texas Rangers, but was pulled after two plate appearances and was replaced in the fifth inning.

In his eighth MLB season, Callaspo has a .273 career batting average with 42 homers and 293 RBI. He started his career with Arizona in 2006 and then joined the Royals in a trade prior to the 2008 season. Callaspo was dealt to the Angels in July 2010.

Callaspo has played solely at third base this season, but has also seen time at second (217 games), shortstop (32 games) and also in the outfield (14 games) during his career.

Green was hitting .325 with 11 home runs and 50 RBI in 87 games with Triple-A Sacramento. He went 0-for-15 this season with the parent club and has yet to record a hit in five major league games.
