The Dallas Mavericks have signed rookie guard Shane Larkin.

The 18th overall pick in this year's draft, Larkin is expected to be out for approximately three months following surgery to repair a fracture in his right ankle.

He suffered the injury while participating in a summer-league practice.

Dallas acquired the former Hurricane with the 18th overall pick in last month's NBA Draft after moving back two spots through trades with the Boston Celtics and the Atlanta Hawks.

The 20-year-old spent two seasons at Miami and averaged 14.5 points, 4.6 assists and 3.8 rebounds as a sophomore.

He was an integral part in helping the Hurricanes capture the ACC championship and led them on a run to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament this past season. He is the son of Hall of Fame shortstop Barry Larkin.
