MLS All-Star head coach Peter Vermes has selected Philadelphia Union forward Jack McInerney to replace Red Bull New York midfielder Tim Cahill for Wednesday's MLS All-Star Game against AS Roma.

Cahill was initially chosen to represent MLS against the Italian side, but he sustained an injury in New York's 4-3 win over Real Salt Lake on Saturday that will prevent him from taking part in Wednesday's match.

McInerney will be appearing in his first All-Star contest after emerging as one of the top strikers in MLS with 10 goals in 19 games this season.

The 20-year-old ranks fourth in the Golden Boot race behind only Camilo (13), Mike Magee (13) and Marco Di Vaio (11), and he has already totaled 22 career goals in MLS play after being selected by the Union in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft.
