The St. Louis Cardinals activated outfielder Matt Holliday from the 15-day disabled list prior to Saturday's game against the Atlanta Braves.

Holliday was placed on the disabled list on July 20 with a strained right hamstring. He suffered the injury while running out a ground ball against the Chicago Cubs on July 11.

The 33-year-old Holliday was hitting .268 with 13 homers and 47 RBI before the injury.

In order to make room on the roster for Holliday, the Cardinals optioned outfielder Brock Peterson to Triple-A Memphis. He played in five games after having his contract purchased from Memphis on July 20.
