Crowd favorite Stanislas Wawrinka and Juan Monaco were second-round winners Wednesday at the Swiss Open.
The second-seeded Wawrinka posted a 7-5, 7-6 (7-4) victory over Spaniard Daniel Gimeno-Traver, setting up a quarterfinal matchup between former Gstaad finalists.
The Swiss star will next face fifth-seeded Feliciano Lopez of Spain, a 6-4, 6-3 winner against Russian Andrey Kuznetsov. Wawrinka was a runner-up at this event in 2005 and Lopez lost in the championship match a year later.
Monaco, meanwhile, had a successful tournament debut, dropping just three games in a 6-1, 6-2 rout of Spaniard Guillermo Garcia-Lopez. The fourth-seeded Argentine's next opponent will be sixth-seeded Russian Mikhail Youzhny, who battled past Spaniard Pablo Andujar, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.
