Not only did the Chicago Sky lose to the Washington Mystics, 82-78, on Wednesday, but they lost star rookie Elena Delle Donne to a concussion.
Delle Donne, the top All-Star vote-getter, suffered the concussion late in the third quarter when she hit her head against the knee of Mystics forward Kia Vaughn while going for a loose ball. Delle Donne had 12 points on Wednesday.
The 23-year-old Delle Donne is questionable for the All-Star game on Saturday. She came into the game averaging 18.6 points per game.
Ivory Latta registered a double-double with 18 points and 13 assists for the Mystics. Monique Currie had 14 points and nine rebounds while Emma Meesseman scored 12 points, all in the fourth quarter.
Sylvia Fowles had 21 points and nine rebounds and Epiphanny Prince scored 18 points for the Sky, who had a five-game winning streak snapped.
The Mystics were down 44-35 at halftime, but they outscored the Sky by a 21-12 margin in the third stanza to tie the game at 56-56 entering the fourth quarter.
Trailing by seven, 81-74, with 1 1/2 minutes to play, Chicago made it close on Tamera Young's jumper and Swin Cash's layup. Tayler Hill stopped the brief run by making 1-of-2 from the foul line with 12.4 seconds to go.
Prince missed a 3-pointer as time ran out on the Sky.
