Gyasi Zardes' second-half tally proved to be the difference on Saturday as the Los Angeles Galaxy came away with a 2-1 victory over the Vancouver Whitecaps at StubHub Center.

The Galaxy entered the match coming off a last-second loss to the Portland Timbers, but rebounded nicely on Saturday and have won three of their last four to climb to up to third place in the crowded Western Conference -- one point ahead of Vancouver.

Vancouver opened the scoring in the 19th minute as Canadian international Russell Teibert launched a long ball across the pitch to a wide-open Camilo, who took a quick touch and slid it under the arm of Los Angeles goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini for his league-leading 13th goal of the season.

But the hosts found an equalizer 10 minutes later when Omar Gonzalez whipped a free kick into the box and it fell to the feet of Jose Villarreal, who tapped it in.

Zardes put the Galaxy in front for good three minutes before the hour mark when he ran down a loose ball on the end line to the left of the goal. He chipped the ball past his defender and beat Vancouver goalkeeper Brad Knighton to the far post.

Vancouver pushed for an equalizer late on, but it never materialized as the club saw its six-match unbeaten streak come to an end.
