(SportsNetwork.com) - Southpaws Travis Wood and Brett Anderson will toe the rubber opposite one another Tuesday night at Coors Field as the Colorado Rockies begin a three-game set with the visiting Chicago Cubs.
The pitching duel is a rematch of last Wednesday's meeting between these two teams at Wrigley Field. The Cubs took three of four games in that series.
Wood has gone eight straight starts without logging a victory. He came away with a no-decision at home against the Rockies on Wednesday as he allowed four earned runs on eight hits in six innings of work, racking up a career-high 11 strikeouts to go along with two walks.
An All-Star last season, Wood has not turned in a quality start since June 26.
Anderson pitched seven innings of two-run ball against the Cubs last week, as he limited the damage from 11 hits by striking out nine and walking nobody. That effort helped the Rockies snap a three-game slide at the time.
When he takes the mound on Tuesday night, Anderson will be the 20th straight left-hander to start for Colorado, tying a major league record.
The Rockies have lost four in a row and seven of eight following Sunday's 4-0 blanking at the hands of the Detroit Tigers.
They managed only four hits in that game and have scored just twice over their last 20 innings overall.
"The only thing I can tell you is we need to keep grinding it out," Brandon Barnes said. "Good things are bound to happen. We've had some setbacks, some injuries, but at the same time, we need to go out there and battle every single day. The season's not over yet."
Among the walking wounded for Colorado are Troy Tulowitzki (left hip flexor strain) and Carlos Gonzalez (ankle), both of whom are considered questionable for Tuesday's series opener. Tulowitzki, who earned his fourth All-Star nod this season, has not played since July 19. Gonzalez has sat out the last two games with an ankle injury, although manager Walt Weiss was optimistic the outfielder will return for this series. Gonzalez has struggled at the plate of late with a .143 batting average over his last 23 games.
Meanwhile, the Cubs have won three of four and are coming off Sunday's 7-3 triumph over the NL West-leading Dodgers in Los Angeles. Edwin Jackson snapped a personal seven-game winless streak by allowing two runs in seven innings, and he also helped himself at the plate with a pair of hits. Leadoff man Chris Coghlan went 2-for-3 with a double and a two-run home run in the fifth inning.
The Cubs have not won a series at Coors Field since August 2004, a span of 10 years. They have lost 12 of the last 14 meetings in Colorado.
