Winnipeg, MB – Nathan Tyler carded a 3-under 69 on Saturday to grab a 2-stroke lead entering the final round of the Players Cup.
Tyler, who has made all four cuts in his rookie PGA Tour Canada season, finished three rounds at Pine Ridge Golf Club at 15-under-par 201.
Carlos Sainz, Jr. held a share of the lead with Tyler at the end of the second round, but a costly double bogey late in his third round caused him to manage just a 1-under 71 to fall into a tie with Mackenzie Hughes (70) for second at 13-under 203.
Hugo Leon (67) sits in fourth place at 12-under, while Kent Eger (67) and JJ Spaun (70) are tied for fifth at minus-10.
Tyler and Sainz, who were playing alongside each other in the final group, traded birdies at the second to remain tied for the lead, but Sainz followed with two more birdies at the third and fourth to grab the outright lead at 15- under.
Tyler birdied the fifth to pull back within a shot of the lead and after the duo again traded birdies at the eighth, Sainz tripped to a bogey at the 11th to meet Tyler at 15-under
Sainz later fell off the pace with a double-bogey 5 at the par-3 16th and parred out to remain at 13-under.
Tyler, meanwhile, parred his final 10 holes to stay atop the leaderboard.
Hughes countered his lone bogey of the day with three birdies to grab his share of second place.
NOTES: The top three players in the PGA Tour Canada's Order of Merit at the end of this event will earn an invitation to the PGA Tour's RBC Canadian Open next week ... Tyler and Sainz both need a win at this event to reach the top three, while Hughes already has an exemption to the RBC Canadian Open.
