The Boston Red Sox activated shortstop Stephen Drew from the 15-day disabled list on Saturday prior to their afternoon tilt with the New York Yankees.

Tightness in his right hamstring has kept Drew out of the lineup since June 28. To make room on their roster, the Red Sox optioned infielder Brock Holt to Triple-A Pawtucket.

The 30-year-old Drew has had an up and down campaign during his first season in Boston, but has collected 25 extra base hits -- including 14 doubles, six triples and five home runs -- while managing a .233 batting average.
