Bastad, Sweden – Serena Williams was among the easy winners Friday on a day of quarterfinal routs at the Swedish Open.
The top-seeded Williams needed just 62 minutes to dispose of Spain's Lourdes Dominguez Lino, 6-1, 6-1. The American star has dropped just 10 games in her first three matches this week.
Williams improved to 26-0 on clay this year and 49-3 overall in 2013. She will next face Klara Zakopalova in Saturday's semifinals.
The third-seeded Czech advanced with a 6-2, 6-3 waltz over Dutch qualifier Richel Hogenkamp in a mere 56 minutes. The five games won by Hogenkamp were the most for a loser in Friday's four matches.
Sweden's Johanna Larsson cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Frenchwoman Mathilde Johansson in 64 minutes and will next play Italian veteran Flavia Pennetta, a 6-1, 6-3 winner over France's Virginie Razzano in 75 minutes -- the longest match of the day.
The eighth-seeded Larsson was the 2011 Bastad runner-up and is still trying for her first career title. She was also a finalist in Portoroz three years ago.
Pennetta, who beat Larsson in the first round at the Sony Open earlier this year, has nine career titles, but none since 2010 in Marbella. She went to the fourth round at Wimbledon earlier this summer.
Williams is also coming off a stunning fourth-round loss at Wimbledon. She has won six tournaments in 2013, including the French Open, and is playing this event for the first time.
Zakopalova has reached her third semifinal of 2013, including a run to the final at the season-opener in China and a semifinal loss to Sara Errani just last week in Palermo. She hasn't won a tournament since 2005 and on Saturday will try to improve upon her 1-3 mark against Williams.
The two haven't met since the first round of the 2009 French Open, a three-set Williams victory. Zakopalova's lone win in the series had come earlier that year in Marbella on clay.
This year's Bastad titlist will claim $40,000.
