Knapp tops Beck in Bad Gastein quarters

Eighth-seeded Italian Karin Knapp knocked off Annika Beck in Friday's quarterfinals at the Gastein Ladies tennis event.

Knapp advanced with a 6-0, 6-1 demolition of the second-seeded German and will next face Yvonne Meusburger in the semifinals. The heavy Austrian crowd favorite bested Dutchwoman Arantxa Rus by a 6-1, 7-6 (7-1) decision.

Meusburger was last week's runner-up in Budapest and the 2007 Bad Gastein finalist.

Czech Andrea Hlavackova and Ukrainian Elina Svitolina will meet in the other semifinal after each beat an Austrian wild card on Day 5.

Hlavackova ousted Lisa-Maria Moser, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4), while Svitolina moved on with a 6-3, 6-0 triumph over Patricia Mayr-Achleitner.

The winner of this $235,000 tournament will earn $42,000.
